Started Dogs and Puppies For Sale

What are started dogs and puppies?
At Facility Dogs of America , we pride ourselves on the flexible options we can offer our clients during their service dog journey. Whether it's coaching clients to train their own privately owned dog, helping them select an adult or puppy prospect, doing board and trains, or having fully trained dogs available for purchase, we try our best to provide the most options for all budgets and time constraints.
In this spirit, Facility Dogs of America is now offering started dogs and puppies for sale, in addition to our fully trained available dogs.
Started dogs and puppies start out the same as our fully trained dogs. Each individual puppy is selected from a reputable breeder by one of our trainers, and given a solid foundation of structured socialization, potty training, crate training, and house manners.

Started Dogs

Learn more about started dogs
Started dogs are a great option if you're interested in having a dog with a good foundation of training, but don't need the dog to be fully trained because you can train advanced skills, or don't want to spend the full price for a fully trained dog.
For example if you want a dog to have a good start on socialization and training, but need to train specialized disability tasks yourself, like medical alerts, a started dog could be a good option. Or if you need a dog to go through the first 3 phases of the program, but want to train your own service dog in public access.
Started dogs complete a minimum of phase 1 of the service dog training program, and also receive: Intensive puppy raising which includes structured socialization, potty training, crate training, and basic household manners; and foundation for public access work through early exposure to public access settings. Additional phases 2-3 can be added on at an additional cost.

Learn more about started puppies
Started puppies are a great option if you don't have the experience or time it takes to commit to following an in depth socialization and training protocol for a service puppy prospect.
Puppies are a lot of work! From house training, crate training, learning polite house manners, and bite inhibition, let alone making sure the puppy is familiarized to all kinds of different people, sounds, animals, environments, and experiences before the critical socialization period begins to close at 12 weeks, starting a service puppy prospect off on the right foot is often a full-time job.
Another barrier people often face when starting their service dog journey is selecting the puppy in the first place. With started puppies, we only work with reputable breeders who meet our requirements for health and socialization, and our trainers individually select puppies for the program based on the suitability of health and temperament for service dog work.
Started puppies do not complete any phases of the Facility Dogs of America service dog program, but receive: Intensive puppy raising which includes structured socialization, potty training, crate training, and basic household manners; and foundation for public access work through early exposure to public access settings. Started puppies go home at 16 weeks of age.

Started Dogs and Puppies FAQ
Dogs Donated or Available for Compass Key to Purchase
The structure of Compass Key is largely dedicated to personal one-on-one training with a client and their dog. Periodically trainers are available to intake a dog into their home for long-term training and eventual sale to a new owner. Because of our limited availability with this option, our selection process to intake a dog is very thorough so we can best optimize our results in training and selling a dog. If you have a dog that you are interested in donating or selling to Compass Key for purchase, please first review our acquisition process here: Dog Intake Process
